The Brick House is a study in restraint — a contemporary custom home that finds expressive power in the limitations of a single material. The home occupies a mid-block parcel in Calgary's Ramsay community, a neighbourhood characterized by an honest mix of older industrial and residential fabric. The material response here is direct: brick, laid simply and with care, across the entirety of the exterior envelope.
The massing draws from the vernacular language of the surrounding context while breaking decisively with it in section — shifting and terracing the roof plane to introduce controlled quantities of light into the interior. The result is a home that reads quietly from the street, but rewards closer inspection with spatial richness within.
