Few sites in Calgary present the opportunities — and the obligations — of a river's edge. The River House sits at the boundary of the Bow River valley, oriented to capture the expansive westward views while managing the complex privacy and flood plain conditions that accompany a site of this character.
The design responds to the river condition directly: a primary living plane elevated above the flood benchmark, with a strong horizontal expression that echoes the terrain of the valley below. The home is organized to allow the river view to permeate as deeply into the plan as the site constraints permit, ensuring that the exceptional quality of the location is present in nearly every room.
